Bounce Back
In late 2016, I was the primary VFX artist for Big Sean's music video for Bounce Back. I had a variety of visuals to deliver, including sky replacements, image distortion effects, and a recreation of the slitscan effect from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Evan Langley came up with the infrared treatment on the desert shots and also comped a few of the planet shots.

The bulk of the sky replacements used this photo I took of a storm over my hometown of Norfolk, NE.

I of course needed to clean up all the power lines, trees, and the wind turbine.

The look of the video called for a red sky. This was a tricky balance to strike between the color the client wanted and having the sky still look real, but we eventually found a spot that satisfied everyone.

This is a test.

The shots looking toward the sunset were particularly tricky, as there was noticeable lightwrap around Sean’s head that became apparent once a darker sky was inserted. So I made the assumption that we would be at the edge of a storm with the real sun poking through on one side.

Adding in the lightning on the night shots was particularly fun.
