Sisters’ Quarrel

2023

In a distant land beyond the lake where brothers once quarreled, the next generation enters the arena. Will their imaginations meet the family legacy? Or ignite something beyond?

Sisters’ Quarrel was our entry into SaberComp 2022. Being the 20th anniversary of the competition, we were eager to do something special. I had always wanted to get behind the camera for one of my projects, and the thought of doing a fight between my nieces but with a high level of cinematic polish was a faint idea for quite awhile. My brother Jeffrey, of Brothers’ Quarrel fame, ended up taking on the mantel of directing while I took on Director of Photography duties, as well as editing, color grading, and visual effects. We shot on the BlackMagic Pocket Cinema 6k Pro, utilizing BRAW.

Two good friends of mine (Eric Fakharzadeh and Steve Ernst) who were eager to sharpen their compositing skills assisted me in tackling the 89 VFX shots, which was our first time doing lightsaber effects in a proper linear workflow. I was very pleased with the whole process of working with the BlackMagic, and I have much to share on the journey to bring this little epic to life. I intend to populate this page with more information about that as I’m able… so keep an eye out!
