OMG I just want to blither like an idiot on this one! I’m so clever…
Seriously tough, this barleywine ale is fantastic. My best description I can come up with off the top of my head is that it’s like a Brau Brothers Rye Wyne ‘light.’ And if you’ve seen my check-ins, you’ll know how much I rave about Brau Brothers, specifically their Rye Wyne, of which Alex, Ben, Scott, and I collectively own over 15 bottles (750mL each, mind you).
Listening to these guys though, they’re really not extending it the praise I am. Screw them. I dig this. I didn’t realize it was 11% ABV until Ben mentioned it a moment ago. Knowing it’s that big, however, I would expect a bit more flavor. There are faint hints of banana, which I always get in these style beers. Barleywines, rye wines, Belgian quads, are among my favorite for their complexity, and this has a fair amount; like I said, it tastes like a light version of one of my favorites ever.
Hot diggity! Next beer is poured already! Hope you enjoyed my idiotic blathering on this.
